Job Description

General Dynamics Mission Systems - Canada currently has a requirement for junior and intermediate software engineers within our Air & Naval Systems Business Area. The incumbents will be part of a team developing the Data Management System (DMS) software. The DMS forms the core data management component of the CP140 Aurora aircraft for the Canadian DND. The DMS provides an integrated tactical picture for the air crew, allowing them to interact with the aircraft sensors through a common OMI. This position involves high-level software development for a Linux environment.

Typical Duties

The responsibilities and range of activities will vary, but in general will include:
  • Participating in an interdisciplinary Agile Scrum team environment under the supervision of more senior engineers
  • Performing software requirements analysis
  • Performing software design and/or analysis functions based on requirements
  • Preparing and reviewing software design documents
  • Developing software code and participating in code reviews
  • Preparing and reviewing test plans and test procedures
  • Identifying defects, resolving issues and verifying solutions
  • Documenting the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
  • Presenting (verbal and written) to GDMS-C management and customers
    • Required Skills & Experience

      • Disciplined approach to software engineering
      • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages; knowledge of Ada is desirable
      • Experience with object oriented design tools and UML
      • Experience using Linux as a host environment
      • Relevant experience with software engineering processes and tools
      • Relevant experience working in an Agile software development program is an asset
      • Relevant experience with software version control systems
      • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
      • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
      • Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills and takes on ownership of work
      • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision

      Education

      Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science or related technical/scientific degree.

      Other

      Minimum 10 year consecutive residence in Canada – for Canadian Secret Security Clearance Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.
